I've been in the antiques industry for over 50 years — as a dealer, publisher, TV presenter, author, speaker, event organiser, and now I find myself being an Internet pioneer — who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?
I'm originally from London's Portobello Road, when I was a child my dad Minky had a junk shop there, my family are still there, although the shop has changed a bit now.
I opened my first collectables stall at age 17, was a full time dealer by 20, and an international dealer by 24.
When I was 40 I brought my family to Australia, imported containers from England, opened a large antiques warehouse in Sydney, and then entered into publishing a magazine on antiques and collectables.
That took me to producing annual price guides, which I've now been doing for 27 years, amongst a raft of other books and magazines. During the 90s I organised the biggest antiques fairs ever seen in Australia, I bet you know somebody who went to them.
One of Australia's most experienced 'faces' in the antiques industry, Alan has scrutinised every single item appearing within the pages of his books. If it's information on antiques and collectables you're looking for - you can trust the experience, principles, fun and enthusiasm of Alan Carter.
